The American gospel music star Edwin Hawkins has died at his house in California, on the age of 74.
The Grammy-winning singer had been affected by pancreatic most cancers, his publicist mentioned.
Hawkins was considered a pioneer of city gospel music, mixing gospel hymns with secular sound. He’s best-known for the 1969 hit Oh Glad Day.
The next 12 months the Edwin Hawkins Singers backed Melanie on her high 10 hit Lay Down (Candles within the Rain).
